Trump's ego and Netanyahu's obvious influence over Trump's policy on Iran, a big obstacle to a possibility of a new Iran-U.S nuclear deal.

Is president Trump really interested in any form of agreement with Iran? Even as I write this, the United States and Iran have just traded blows almost 50 days into a ceasefire agreed upon after intense 40 days of airstrikes on each other's infrastructure. This, amidst intense discussions on how to peacefully open the strait of Hormus and work out a framework on how to permanently end hostilities between the U.S and Iran. Then, the U.S secretary of state, Marco Rubio pops up and threatens that the U.S would open the strait "one way or the other." Mr. Rubio said this while implying that the United States had no need of negotiating with Iran on how to open the strategic water way and that they would rather use their military might to do so. The following day, the U.S attacks Iran's Port City of Bandar Abbas and shoots down  5 drones that it claims were distracting shipping in the strait of Hormus. Trump's confusing policy on Iran: Oops! He didn't wage a war to make peace!

Iran's nuclear issues have been around for over 2 decades especially since dissidents in the country revealed uranium enrichment and heavy water facilities in Natanz and Arak in 2002. While the crisis began in 2002, Iran's legitimate nuclear program started in the 1950s under the U.S "Atoms for peace" program, which provided research reactors to the Shah of Iran, who was the leader of Iran during that time. Since the exposure of Iran's secret nuclear sites, controversy over Iran's covert nuclear enrichment has been ongoing, with Iran maintaining its right to peaceful nuclear technology while the international community has periodically restricted its program through negotiations and sanctions. Important to note is that since the birth of the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979, all power was vested in the Supreme Leader(Ayatollah) and his Fatwah(ruling) influences and can sometimes, override state legislation.
