An Nasr
Iran named its renewed military campaign against the United States "Operation Nasr 2" to signify a campaign of retaliation and victory.
After forty days of fighting during their first stand off, the United States and Iran signed a ceasefire agreement on June 17 which hopefully laid a foundation for a permanent cessation of hostilities between the two countries.
However, only a few weeks after signing the ceasfire agreement, the U.S renewed its military campaign against Iran under the guise of safeguarding navigation through the strait of Hormus.
As usual, Iran is retaliating against the U.S attacks by hitting U.S interests across the Gulf region.
However, unlike its previous campaigns that they have codenamed "True Promise" in a chronological series of 1, 2 , 3 and 4, this time round Iran has codenamed its retaliation campaign against the U.S, "An Nasr."
The word "nasr" (نصر) translates to "victory" or "triumph" in Arabic and Persian.
This hope for victory by the Iranians is also based on the Qur'anic verse where Allah promises victory to a weaker side in battle as long as it is the side standing for truth.
Qur'an 3:13 says:
"There has already been for you a sign in the two armies that met [in combat]: One was fighting in the cause of Allah, the other resisting Allah; whom they saw with their own eyes as twice their number. But Allah doth support with His aid whom He pleaseth. In this is a warning for such as have eyes to see."
This verse references the miraculous Battle of Badr, where a small Muslim army defeated a much larger Quraysh force.
It serves as a reminder that victory comes from God rather than sheer numbers or highly sophiscated military equipment.
The Historical Context of the above verse:
This verse highlights the Battle of Badr (624 CE). The Muslim army (around 313 men) faced a well-equipped Quraish army of over 1,000 men. [1,]
The Quraysh forces appeared to the Muslims to be twice their number, which made the victory even more of a miracle, emphasizing divine intervention.
Divine Support:
The verse highlights the core Islamic concept that true power and victory do not rely on military might or numerical advantage, but on God's will and spiritual devotion.
In the same way, the U.S jointly with their allies across the world have teamed up against Iran.
The U.S is the world's affirmed most superior power on earth.
Even as this is so, the U.S has teamed with a number of other major powers against the Islamic Republic of Iran! These include Israel, the very wealthy Gulf states and some of U.S allies in Europe who are silently participating in the war. All these against Iran, which of cousre is a much weaker country and seems to be standing alone on her side.
However, while the U.S boasts of its military prowess and its undeniable influence allover the world, Iran only looks to God as their sole ally in the ongoing fight for its survival.
It is not surprising therefore, that with all its military prowess, the U.S together with its allies seem to be losing against a much weaker state of Iran.
