Shame on You, U.S.A! What a mess this world cup tournament is!

The United States of America boasts of a civilisation that spans a period of over 200 years.

However, civilisation is not all about having the ability to take humans to the moon or put up a facade of being the leading democracy in the world. Discipline and restraint are also key elements of a genuinely civilized community.

Though the rest of the world likes to classify Africa as a primitive community because of our low levels of technological advancement, the truth is that Africa is a truly civilized continent with a civilzation that spans a period of thousands of years.

Regardless of where one comes from in Africa, we, at least have the discipline of not "washing dirty linen" in public.

In Africa, it is regarged and it is, indeed a high level of indiscipline to have fights in the presence of guests. Leaving a good impression in the minds of visitors is a key element of the civilized African society.

In Africa, it is an unwritten rule that when expecting visitors in a home, the usual behavior in a home is altered a bit at least for the time the guests will be hosted in a home. A usually unkempt home gets cleaned and tidied thoroughly, sometimes even mowing the small road that will be used by the guests to reach the hosting home. Only special meals are prepared during the period of the guests' stay.

Last but not least, it is considered very primitive and a high level of indiscipline to stage a fight in the presence of visitors in a home. Even when a fight naturally erupts between some people in a home where guests are hosted, you will be sure to hear a voice of an elder in low tones warning the spatting parties to hold off their quarrel at least until the guets leave. "Shhhh!!...... Will you stop the fight? The visitors there will hear you", you may hear the elder trying to quel the spat.

We take hospitality so seriously that for routinely conflicting married couples, when someone knocks on the door in the middle of a fight between the couple, they abruptly halt the fight, quickly wear smiling faces, forge a quick conversation to show that they were found in the midst of one, then open the door for the visitor and give him/ her a very hospitable welcome.

We do all this because image and reputation matters alot to us. How one is perceived by people outside their home should be a concern for any civilized person.

Then here comes the United States of America, apparently the most civilized country in the world. They can not refrain from exposing their rogue bahavior for at least 30 days and let the world enjoy the World cup tournament in peace!

The United States is one of the 3 host countries of the most prestigious football event in the world, along with Canada and Mexico.

It is usually a very honorable opportunity for any country to be voted as the host of this prestigious event. This is a time when thousands of football fans travel to the hosting cities to support their respective national teams while the majority are glued on their T.V sets to follow the tournament in the comfort of their homes.

This is a time when the hosting country's level of hospitality is tested on a global stage. The United States seems to be flatly failing this test.

I am writing this post on a Thursday afternoon  and the opening ceremony of the world cup is set to kick off at 7:30 Eastern Time.

Usually by this time, majority of the media outlets channel their attention to this prestigious tournament. Excitement among football fans is usually at the peak with people in bars and streets enthusiastically discussing strengths and weakenesses of their respective teams. That is not the case with the 2026 FIFA world cup hosted by the United States of America, Mexico and Canada. The expected level of media clout about the event is so low that it is directly having a negative impact on the level of excitement meant to be had by football fans around the world.

This is because the United States does not have the patience of holding off its ongoing assualt on the Islamic Republic of Iran for at least the brief time that they are hosting the tournament.

Moreover, in the midst of a ceasefire, President Trump chose to relaunch attacks on Iran just a day before the kick off the tournament!

Excitement about the tournament is now being killed by the media coverage of the uncertainties brought about the ongoing U.S assualt in the Middle East.

The build up to the tournament is furthermore being marred by The United States' hostilities towards would be guests and participants in the tournament.

There are reports of unnecessary border policies, visa denials for team staff and refereeing staff, soaring ticket costs, and low foreign attendance. Several logistical and diplomatic issues are also ruining the tournament.

The tournament is so messed up by the U.S hostilities that people across the world are wondering what kind of tournament this is going to be.

The level of America's interference in international football affairs is so visibly high that some people even joke that the United States will be declared winner of the 2026 FIFA mens' world cup even if they do not win any game in the tournament.

The United States has all the powers to create a positive atmosphere that will enable the tournament to be enjoyable.

However, for the U.S to fail to hold off from its usual rogue behavior during a time like this, is such an embarrassment.

The U.S has stooped so low by transferring its political affairs to the football arena.

For a country that pretends to be the craddle of modern civilization, they should have just let football enjoy its immunity from political affairs, rather than try to use the football stage to showcase their superiority.

Surely, after 80 years of undisputed superiority, the football stage should not have been an arena for the U.S to showcase its untouchable status in the world.

The United States should instead play ball and win games if it intends to showcase its might on a football stage.

Shame, shame, big shame! For a country that has for long projected itself as the global leader in both military and diplomacy affairs, the curtains have been brought down.

With the United States reportedly doing not so well in its latest assault in the Middle East, their rogue handling of the world cup tournament is proving that the U.S is not just losing its position as the undisputed military power but it is also losing its position as the world's leader on the big stage of diplomacy!
