When Hamas launched its unprecedented attacks on Israel in the early October of 2023, what started off as the saddest moment in the history of modern Israel, turned out to be the greatest blessing in disguise for Israeli Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
To this man, this was an opportunity to genuinely dismantle Hamas and its military infrastructure, thereby permanently kill off the Gaza threat to Israeli security.
Moreso, the October 7 attacks gave Netanyahu a much revered opportunity to fuflill his dream of permanently driving the Palestinians off their remaining land.
Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
Following the Six-Day War in June 1967, Israel occupied the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.
Over the decades, Palestinians have lost control of these lands through systematic military confiscations, the rapid growth of strict bureaucratic zoning and physical barriers that fragment the territory. [1,]
Under the guise of keeping Israeli borders secure, Netanyahu is now seeking to drive Palestinians completely out of the remaining small territory that they still hold, with some Cabinet ministers in his government calling for the destruction of Gaza and make it inhabitable. [1]
All this is done in pursuit of the so called Greater Israel Project. Oh! The massacres the world has witnessed for the past three years! The justified genocide the Netanyahu government has unleashed on the Palestinians! The repugnant Carnage in Gaza since October 2023! The unprecedented infrastructural damage in this small territory!
However, of late, Mr.Netanyanhu is under pressure from his close ally, U.S President Donald Trump, to withdraw his forces from Gaza and pave way for the so called Board of Peace.
The Board of Peace is an international organization initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump.
It was formally established in January 2026 at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Its role is to oversee the post-war administration, security coordination and reconstruction framework for the Gaza Strip.
[4]Besides that, Israel is slated to have general elections only a month from now.
Opinion polls don't look good for Prime minister Netanyahu.
The popularity of Netanyahu's Likud party has plummeted since Hamas's October 7 attacks on Israel, with polls suggesting that the party could lose a third of its seats. [1]
Moreover, the polls also suggest that over 60% of Israelis don't want Netanyahu to run for office of Prime minister. [2]
Yet, being prime Minister has become some form of life support for him.
He has been facing serious corruption charges for over seven years and being Prime Minister is what's still keeping him out of prison.
Though remaining Prime Minister does not legally shield him from prosecution, it is widely believed that his position helps him influence the legal landscape. [3,]
In addition to his domestic legal battles, Netanyahu faces legal battles on the international scene as he already has an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court(ICC) for crimes against humanity along with his former Defense minister, Yoav Gallant. [4]
Moreover, of late, war has become a form of governance for this man.
Many critics frequently argue that sustaining multiple active fronts helps him forestall political reckoning.
Netanyahu is determined to see his dream of expanding Israel territory become a reality.
Recently, he appeared in a video bragging about how the Israelis have slowly eaten up most of the Gaza strip, currently controlling 70% of the strip and intending to eat up the remaining 30%. [5]
After the fall of the Assad regime in 2024, the Israel Defense Forces moved beyond their previously held lines to seize control of the UN-monitored demilitarized buffer zone in the Golan Heights and parts of Southern Syria. [6]
Now that he's witnessing his dream of establishing the so called Greater Israel slowly become a reality, one can not convince this man to give up on his assaults in the Middle East region.
He is determined to stay Prime Minister even if it means seeking another ruthless war.
Since the outbreak of the Gaza war, a good number of Israelis have been demanding for early elections. [7]
Knowing that he would be unseated in the heat of the moment, he refused to heed to these early election demands and his administration kept urging the masses to wait for the general elections.
Three years haven't taken long. The general elections are slated for October 2026.
However, Netanyahu seems not to be confident of being trusted again as Israeli leader.
In this case, he seems to be searching for an excuse to possibly dodge elections but retain his seat as Israeli Prime minister.
To say it bluntly, it appears as though Netanyahu is seeking another long war! A war that would be prolonged over into election time and use it to justify the need to cater for security first before engaging in any political activity.
Netanyahu has adamantly refused to heed to Trump's demands of him to withdraw troops from recently occupied areas in Gaza and Lebanon.
It seems like Netanyahu is itching for a new prolonged war: a war that will give the him much needed hideout from elections.
Of late, there are rumors driven by Israeli security that they have observed signs of security breaches in the fence that they set up against Gazans.
While the world was still digesting that news, more word from the same Israeli security came out with claims that they are noticing military activity in the Gaza strip as there was before October 7, implying that the Gazans could be organizing another deadly attack. [1]
This means that according to Netanyahu's right wing government, Israeli occupation of Gaza is very necessary for the good of Israelis' security.
There have also been unconfirmed reports that the Israeli government would seriously want to launch another full sclae in Gaza, which would give Netanyahu's administration an opportunity to occupy the remaining piece of the strip.
Besides that, it would save him from organizing elections where he's not certain of Victory.
At the same time, there are reports that the Israeli government is preparing for another long war against Hezbollah. [1]
As of late, Israel has targeted the Abu Al Suhur airbase in northwestern Syria with airstrikes, apparently to warn Damascus and its regional ally Turkey against rebuilding Syrian military aviation capabilities. [1, 2]
There are also reports that Netanyahu's government is itching to launch a war against the Iranians before elections take place under the pretext of stopping Iran from rebuilding its nuclear program.
Whatever it may be: Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, or even Iran, in these few remaining months upto the Israeli elections, something in form a war may come up: which would help the war man Benjamin Netanyahu to stall the election procedure!
