The Houthis: a snake in the saucepan for Saudi Arabia.

In my language, there is a saying that goes: Semusota gwa'muntamu...   This   saying is about a difficult situation where one finds a live snake in his cooking pot. If they hit it, they don't cook as the the pot will be dirtened by the remains of the snake or even get broken. And yet, if they don't hit the snake, they still won't cook because there is no way one can use a pot when there is a snake breathing inside it.  This saying is used to describe a hard situation where one has very few options, and this seems to be the case with Saudi Arabia and the Houthis. The Houthis, officially known as  Ansar Allah , are a Zaydi Shia political and military organization that controls large parts of Yemen, including the capital city of Sanaa.  The group started in the 1990s in northern Yemen as a religious and cultural revival movement for the Zaydi Shia minority, led by the A l-Houthi family . "With us or against us!" The US is putting its supremacy on the line with its Economic D-Day operation.

By declaring that these latest economic measures against Iran are infact a taste of U.S allies' loyalty, the US is putting its supremacy on the line.

Emboldened in their ego and the desperate need to cover the embarrassment and humiliation in their military assault against Iran, the Americans have decided to put their allies on the spot.

The threat of "either with us or against us" followed by threats of secondary sanctions against those who defy the "king's order" makes the whole Iran fiasco appear like it's a US problem rather than a genuine concern for the international community.

This is because had it been indeed a matter of the international community, the US would not be shy of using the United Nations to justify its aggressions as the case was with the likes of Saddam Hussein and Muamar Ghadaffi.

The Trump administration forgets that over 20 years after the chaos in Iraq and Afghanistan and almost 15 years after the disintegration of Libya, the world has had something to learn from these unjustified assaults on sovereign territories.

In the eraly 2000s, the US managed to convince its allies to join in its pre-planned aggressions on Arab and Islamic countries. The results are not those to be proud of.

After destroying Iraq, it was later confirmed that Iraq indeed had no Weapons of Mass Destruction program. And after the brutal assault on Libya, the country is now a complete shambles and no one has an idea how to integrate it again!

Yet now, over twenty years later, the same country that hoodwinked allies into unjustified and failed wars is back with a similar demand!

It is not surprising that this time round, the traditional US allies especially those in Europe have been very watchful about their steps on the Iran matter.

Spanish Premier Pedro Sanchez publicly voiced out regrets about their European countries' earlier participation in US unjustified wars.

Despite Trump's frantic pleas, demands and threats, these countries have up until now refused to openly join in on the skeptical war against Iran.

Fearing that the failures of the Iran war could spark off a string of resistance against its hegemony, the US decided to go for a desperate move that would not only hopefully help it achieve its heinous goals in Iran but also try to reaffirm its position as the unchallenged global superpower.

As the case has been with the military assault, this too, could have reverse effects for the US.

Moreover, the US is not only putting its neck on a sharp knife but also that of its revered Arab allies.

While the US gives it orders from thousands of miles away from the Middle East, the Arab countries are neighbors to the now injured lion, Iran.

Whatever thought of vengeance that crosses the minds of the Iranians, it is these wealthy Gulf states that are most likely going to suffer.

The Iranians believe that these states' wealth contributes a lot to the United States' economic muscle. Therefore, according to the Iranians, disrupting the Gulf states' economic lifeline may severe the US economic standing as well.

The Iranians, rather than cave in to U.S pressure, have warned their Arab neighbors of harsh consequences if they participate in the so called "Econmic D-Day".

Already, as I write this piece, a brutal war is raging between the Ansarullah  Iran-backed militia group in Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

Very shocking is that in their retaliatory attacks against Saudi Arabia, the "Ansarullah" commonly known as Houthis are particularly targeting Saudi Arabia's economic infrastructure.

Worse even, these fighters have now completely taken over control of the Babel Mandeb strait and have now completely put an embargo on Saudi Arabia shipping.

It is believed that although the Iranians publicly deny this, they are the masterminds of what is currently going on in Saudi Arabia, as a way of hitting back at US attempts of shutting down Iran's economy.

"We don't sell oil, neither will US main allies in the region",

the Iranians seem to be suggesting.

The Gulf states are loyal alies of the US but they also treasure their thriving economies a lot.

The US's Economic D-day puts them in a difficult position of choosing between appeasing the US or have their economies disrupted as well.

One wonders why the US is putting itself in such a position.

The arrogance of the Trump administration keeps their eyes completely blinded from the truth.

Unlike their earlier wars, the US and Israel failed to convene the United Nations about the Iran scandal. They failed to get a consensus from the international community about the matter.

Infact, it should be noted that at the time when they launched their war against Iran, the US and Iran were engaged in serious talks about Iran's nuclerar program, only for the US and Israel to go behind the Iranians' backs and boom! Iran's top leadership were brutally assassinated.

This made the US lose a big chunk of their respect from its alies who had so much hopes in a diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear crisis.

Besides, a number of countries are viewing the US as an usurper of the United Nations' powers.

Some countries like China (which happens to be the world's second largest economy) are questioning where the US gets the powers to declare Iran an international enemy.

Moreover, the Trump administration is desperately failing to convince the world that Iranians are indeed global enemies.

The world occassionally reads Trump's "Truth Social" posts about Iran being a terror state, about how Iran would launch a nuclear weapon on its neighbors if it was allowed to have one, and sometimes even accusing the Tehran administration of killing tens of thousands of its people.

All these accusations have not been enough to convince the world that Iran is indeed a world enemy, especially after Saddam Hussein was successfully framed, only to prove his innocence after he was brutally hang on a rope.

The arrogance of the Trump administration won't let them learn from their military assualt on Iran.

They fail to realise that unlike their earlier foes, the Iranians do not match the US military strength muscle to muscle but they have the ability to inflict some of the pain back to the Americans by punishing their much treasured allies in the Middle East.

These US Arab allies know very well that when Iran says a thing, it means what it says and when it vows punishment to whoever collaborates with the US against it, it has the ability to do so, especially with the use of its proxy militias across the region.

Therefore, "either with us or against us strategy looks like a very risky move by the US.

Already, some influential countries have openly vowed to stand with Iran. These include China, Russia and Pakistan.

Others are very fearful of what may arise out of this fragile situation. These include Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Why is the U.S conducting an open ballot against itslef? What if it witnesses some of its close allies refuse to line behind its back? How embarrassing that would be!

Moreover, this looks like the last desperate move against the Islamic Republic of Iran and should it fail as well, it will not only have failed to deliver the desired results for the Trump administration but it will also leave the US place as the undisputed global military and economic power in a very  difficult position.
